Solarguard PV™ Cable For Photovoltaic Systems

Solarguard PV™ Cable For Photovoltaic Systems

There is an increasing interest in producing electricity in a way which is kind to the environment, cheap and safe. A popular way of doing this is through the use of photovoltaic panels which generate electricity from the sunlight. It is estimated that as much as 40% of a household’s electricity can be generated in this way. The introduction of the FIT, or “Feed In Tariff” in the UK, has initiated a huge surge in interest for photovoltaic (PV) panels.

The FIT system incentivizes the use of photovoltaic panels and wind turbines in both domestic and commercial applications by allowing for generated electric units to be sold back to the national grid and on top of this for payments to be made for units which were generated and consumed by the user.

Cables required for photovoltaic applications need to meet very stringent standards as the conditions in which they are required to operate are extreme. The cables must be capable of withstanding severe temperatures ranges, exposure to sun light, weathering and ageing as well as flexing conditions. TÜV is the most recognised of these standards in Europe.

IDH is a long established company which prides itself on manufacturing electrical cables of the highest quality and standard. IDH’s new range of photovoltaic cables are called SOLARGUARD PV™ and have been designed to meet the TÜV standard 2Pfg 1169/08.2007.

The cables are double insulated with thermosetting low smoke halogen free material and are available in 2.5, 4.0, 6.0 and 10.0mm2 tinned conductors. SOLARGUARD PV™ typically comes in red, blue or black but other colours may be available on request.
